Review of the week:

ED GUY - Savage Poetry / AFM

Ed Guy have returned with another album and it's an album worth their talent and the reputation they have established for themselves so far. It's not an entirely new album since it is a re-recording of their first album. But the changes are so many that you can hardly recognize the old songs. They are re-recorded, re-arranged, re-produced, even re-written in some cases. The result is an album of German school Power Metal in the usual veins of Ed Guy that's simply impressive. What you'll find in the album is the usual bombastic metal of the band along with a couple of ballads and a ten minutes epic song with many changes in the rhythms. All the things that help Ed Guy become one of the best Power Metal bands around are present in the album. The excellent voice of Tobias, the double guitars and the groovy songs with the catchy refrains, that seem to stack in your mind. You know it's this kind of songs that you whisper alone wherever you are. Along with the album comes, as a bonus, the original recording of the album from 1995. If you listen to it you'll be surprised since it has very few things in common with the new recording. I don't think that someone will prefer it from the new recording, but it's there, more for historical reasons. Before we close the review we should mention the excellent production and the classic Ed Guy cover art, which are just completing the puzzle in the best possible way. If you are into Power Metal then the album is a must.
