Review of the week:

ALICE COOPER - Brutal Planet / Eagle Rock

Alice Cooper is an old story in music. In the past he has given us some excellent albums of Hard Rock especially before his American period which begun with "Trash". It's been quite a while since his last album and it seems that all these years of rest had their effect in him and his music. "Brutal Planet" is the heaviest album he has done so far, mixing elements from his early Hard Rock days, plus his later more American sounding albums. The result is the closest album to the term heavy metal he has done so far and it's an ass kicking album from the start till the end. The songs are catchy and groovy, with absolutely great melodic lines, but the surprise comes in the form of the sound of the rhythm guitar. The riffs are simply amazing. The voice of Alice Cooper sounds better than even and you get the feeling that he is young and not well over 60. The album is a concept one and one can find several references to the modern world and to our society. It's all happening in a fictional world but the references are more than obvious. Alice Cooper has both the talent and the experience and he seems to take good advantage of both. The production is perfect with the guitars sounding really heavy and the voice being high, but not so high as to draw the other instruments. You really have to try hard to find something bad in the album. If you are into Hard Rock and classic metal then you're gonna dig it. Highly recommended.
