Doom/Death Music News Tape (July, 5)

The only thing we can announce at the moment is the Rockwave Festival which will take place in July 14th in Western Athens. Some big names are going to appear live in front of the Greek audience this year. Iron Maiden will be the headliners and before them Dream Theater, In Flames, Septic Flesh and On Thorns I Lay will prepare the audience. The next concert will be this of Armored Saint in Thessaloniki September 22nd (Ydrogeios) and Athens September 24th (An Club). There are more things to come from September but nothing is confirmed as we go online.

Cathedral are busy writing their new album. They will enter the studio this month in order to record the new album, which is untitled yet and will be released in October.

The first ever live appearance of Anathema in United States will happen in this year's Milwaukee Metal Fest. It was about time for our friends overseas to experience a live from Anathema.

The second album of Black Metallers Nile is completed. The title of the album is "Black Seeds Of Vengeance" and according to the band it is full of brutality and emotion. The album will be released in early September and a few days before the band will start touring the US with Cannibal Corpse. Later they will head for Europe for their first headlining tour.

Rob Halford is back for good (as you are going to reed next month in the interview he did with us). He has named his new band simply Halford and the title of the album is "Resurrection". The album will be released in August and you can read a preview of it in our CD-Reviews section. The album is produced by Roy Z. who also helped in the songwriting.

Michael Kiske found a new deal and will release a new album next year. He signed with Noise Records and he stated that the new album will be released under a band name and it will not be a solo one. The music will be hard rock but not old school metal. In related news Michael contributed some vocals in the forthcoming opera of Tobias from Ed Guy.

Review of the week:

IRON MAIDEN - Brave New World / EMI

So the long awaited come back album of Maiden with Bruce singing is here at last. There's no need to hide that our expectations were really big about the album and there's no need to hide that all the promises came true. Yes this is an album worth the name Iron Maiden that's written in the cover of it. The only way to describe the music is classic Maiden. It has elements from their earlier works with Bruce while it also has a few new elements (like the double bass drum from Nicko) that make it sound different than their previous albums. The next noticeable change is that it's heavier and that's not only due to the three guitars. It's also the production that makes it heavier and it's also the riffs themselves and the arrangements that make it heavier. As for the vocals... well at last an album that you are not afraid to listen the voice cause it might ruin the whole feeling, like when Blaze was singing. The guitar duels are still there playing a leading role in the music, as they always have and the usual melodies of Maiden are completing the puzzle of an excellent album. The album is well over 60 minutes and unlike most metal albums around you don't get bored not even for a single bloody second. It's full of classic old fashioned but fresh metal. Now if you ask me if it's the best album they have done so far then the answer will be no. But it is a good one. Better than almost all the metal albums around and better than many Maiden albums of the past. It's simply heavy metal as it was meant to be, heavy metal the Maiden way, the only way. Thank god they are back and they are back in a way that nobody can ignore. Oh yeah baby it's a brave new world !
