Review of the week:

DISPATCHED - Motherwar / Music For Nations

This is the debut album of these guys from Sweden and it is a good one. Now as to what they are playing... well it's somehow strange but it can be described as a mix of classic metal and black metal. Classic metal riffs, machine-gun like drums, some melodies and aggressive black metal like vocals. Add the straight in your face attitude and you get the picture. The album does not start well since the intro is simply the Iron Maiden song "Clansman" but what continues is an absolute metal holocaust. The cover of Europe's "Final Countdown" is absolutely great, since it sounds much more noisy, much more aggressive, much more... black. Their own songs have some interesting arrangements and they drip metal all the way. Yeah that's what I call evolution, that's what I call progression. Take two genres of different styles of metal and blend them together in a way that reminds no other band around and in a way that introduces to the people a new and fresh approach to music. Check it out.
