(Part 1/3) How Much is Too Much? Un-overwhelm Yourself! Then there are the school-year practices. It's difficult for a child to attend school from 8:30-3:00, come home to wolf down a snack and maybe do some chores or homework, then attend practice from 5:15-7:30! When do they eat dinner? For our children, it's usually about 8:00. Then they have barely enough time to shower, finish up chores/homework, and fall into bed. Don't get me wrong--I really believe in the benefits of team sports and wouldn't go to all this trouble if I didn't. I do, however, wonder about those parents who get their children involved in two or three simultaneous activities during the school year. No offense, I'd just like to know when (if) you sleep and how you make time for yourself. Please send me your feedback so I can include it next month. What I've Learned Keep a flexible schedule This isn't easy, but when things come up, it's a lot less stressful. Say no sometimes "Yes-men" (and women) may make others happy, but they undoubtedly forget themselves. Pursue your own interests Decide what you enjoy and don't put it off for "someday." We'll discuss these further next month. Remember, above all, we are human and are bound to get overwhelmed and stressed at times. However, with a little effort we can make time for ourselves...in turn, this will have a positive effect on all our relationships and activities. Check back in November for Part 2 of this very important topic. Until then...don't forget to live for yourself, too!
