Over the years many, many myths, legends, folklore and tall tales have been created, shared and passed down regarding dolphins. Some of these stories may be based in reality and just given more flavor with each retelling but others are based solely on fiction and someone's creative mind. So how do you know the difference? What is the truth behind these myths and legends?

The past couple of weeks I have spent numerous hours researching various myths, stories, and legends involving dolphins, their actions, interactions, behaviors, etc. While I had several myths in mind, my research has uncovered quite a few more. As a result, I have decided to share with you - the visitors and loyal readers of the Suite 101 dolphin site - the truths and facts behind these myths and legends.

I feel, and have always felt, that in order to truly understand and appreciate dolphins for all they are, you must have the most current, accurate, and detailed information available. This is what I will offer to you. Beginning in August and continuing through the end of this year - to December - I will offer you the myths, lengends, stories and folklore regarding dolphins, as well as information on their origin.

In addition, if you have heard, know or have ever wondered about a myth, legend, story or folklore regarding dolphins, and would like me to include it in this series, please contact me via email. If I use the myth or story inquiry, I will note your name and original question in the article.

Dolphins are beautiful, graceful, intelligent and talented creatures, and many, many stories have been created about them. Now, we will research which of these stories are based on truth, and which are not.

"The Truth is Out There."
