The Continuing Adventures of Fostering Rescued Dogs

For Mother's day my Rescue Pup wanted to give me something special. He is a darling, sweet Great Pyrenees puppy, just over one year old, and wears the most angelic expression!

My son was home for Mother's Day. Besides spoiling me with gifts and dinner, my son had rented a movie for us to watch. While we were in the living room, watching the movie, my Rescued PUP was hard at work on his creation.

He took papers from a box of records sitting on the floor. "These must be really special! Momma keeps them in envelopes, in a box!" (Try explaining this to the IRS.)

"Oh look! In this nice plastic bag, all wrapped up in plastic, little rolls of paper! They make such lovely curling streamers when you finally get them unrolled!" (How often am I going to use that adding machine anyway? So what did I need with new rolls of paper?)

"She wasn't reading that newspaper, and it would be a nice addition to my mozaic!"

"I love my foster Momma so much, I want this to be a grand project! It should cover every inch of the floor! In fact, the bigger the better! I think I'll make my Momma's picture SOOOO big it covers more then one room!"

"Now why would Momma have thrown this neat stuff away? The pudding cup has just enough left inside to add that special flavor to my work of art!"

When my pup was through, every inch of my bedroom and my therapy room floor was covered with his creation. It even spilled out into the hallway!

"Look Mom! LOOK! Isn't it pretty!!" A happy, tail wagging Pyr greeted me.

"I worked so hard!!! I am so proud of myself! Don't you just love it!!?" "Happy Mother's Day!"

I often find myself questioning the sanity of folks looking for puppies. The best advice I've ever heard or read for Puppy owner's can be summed up in this one lesson. Get a newspaper and roll it up very tightly, securing it with a rubber band, and leave it on the coffee table. Then, when your puppy piddles or has an accident on your carpet, eats the cushions from your sofa, chews up your favorite pair of shoes, or does anything he's not supposed to do---

Simply take the newspaper and bang it---

on the top of YOUR head, very hard, while repeating...

"I should have been watching my puppy!" "I should have been watching my puppy!"
