ESCAPE! (mini-vacations, and Doggie Adventures)

Escape!!

Did you ever just feel like getting away from it all? Maybe just running away for a short time, changing the scenery.

Apparently we are not alone with those feelings.

Escape! The pest control man came one afternoon—perhaps he didn't close the gate properly, didn't put the latch back on the gate either. I had just let the dogs out for a potty break, when I spotted the gate ajar. In that same instant, the Rescues also noticed the gate! I looked up to see seven of the eight Rescued Pyrs in residence see the invitation, and decide—right then, right there—totally spur of the moment---it was time for a walk about!

This is why we call them Dis-a-Pyrs!

Can you picture this? Me, who walks with a cane, attempting to chase 7 huge dogs! Note, the old girl didn't want to play. She came up to me, leaned and rubbed against me. "It's Ok, Mom. I'm still here!"

Me—who preaches secure fencing! Me---who has chain-link, and electric fencing, gate latches, and… A massive escape!

I jump in the van---which on occasion I forget is NOT a 4 wheel drive---and go free wheeling through the nursery next door. Yes! There's one! Yay!

Stop the car, get out and call--but Hannah thinks this is a game! She runs, visions of cheetahs flashing through my mind as this girl takes off. I cut deep gouges in the mud as I wheel the van around. Gosh, I think, this would be easier on horseback! I am reminded of years long gone, working with cattle!

Cut her off, wheel around, cut again---herding her back towards house! I jump out of the van, close the gate, and get her inside---and then go back to leave the gate open in case someone comes back on their own. Two do. That leaves me 4 to find!

Off again, tearing through the nursery next door---spot two! Slam to a stop and call. "Aw gee..." Heads down, they "drag" themselves to the van. "We're coming..." "Just wanted to see what they are growing, maybe find a rabbit to play with..."

Home again, put these two in crates--but there are still two Pyrs missing. I find them--- chest deep in a mud hole. Nellie comes slowly, sadly--but she comes. Handsome, sloshes through the mud, looks at me, and I see that mischievous look come over his face. Gonna’ run---I can see it---and I screamed! I mean I REALLY hollered.

Don't I know it, Joan! It only takes once though, and you learn to escort visitors, repairmen, etc through the gate and padlock it yourself. Glad all your babies were safely retrieved. By the way, ...
