New Years Resolutions for you and your dog

Have you ever made a New Years resolution only to break it? I will give you some New Years resolutions that will be difficult to break, and your dog will benefit too.

#1. I Promise to lose some weight

This is probably the number one New Years resolution that everyone has a tough time following through with. Let your dog help you. When you have that craving for something naughty, instead of grabbing a cookie for you, grab Fido's leash. A good brisk walk will benefit you both. Take you favorite picture of Fido begging for a treat, write on the bottom "I'm begging you please don't do it." Then tape it to the fridge. Temptation should be thwarted, if those big, pleading eyes can't convince you, seek medical help.

#2. I promise to use my leisure time well.

You've had a long day at work and you're tired and you don't want to walk the dog, instead of sitting in front of the TV, you can watch your favorite program while giving Fido a good brushing. You will have used your time wisely and Fido will look good for it!

#3. I promise to make a conscience effort to save money.

Everyone likes to be a smart money manager, and a good way to do it is to promise to regularly groom your dog at home following Chris' great tips: Time is money and money is time. Groomers usually charge by the hour or by the length of time it takes to do your dog. You will have saved both at the groomers by keeping up your dog's regular bath and brushing at home.

#4. I promise to quit smoking.

Besides being a nasty habit that you should quit for your own health, also for your dog's health. Everyone knows that second hand smoke is just as dangerous and your dog can be affected too. You probably don't realize it but your dog can absorb the smell onto its coat and skin. I can always tell when a customer is a smoker by the odor his dog carries. It actually takes several shampoos to get the stench out of the dog's hair. So how do we go about quitting something so addicting? My suggestion, from someone who is successful in kicking the habit, is to make a personal decision to have better health, then seek medical help. Fido can help too, take a snap shot of him with an unlit cigarette hanging out of his mouth and tape it to your cigarette package so you can see how silly you must look too! Nicotine is one of the strongest addictions known to man and all my canine friends and I wish you much success.
