How to Sleep Well (Part 1)

Sleeping is essential for health, and inadequate sleep can lead to numerous physical problems. It shows too - dull skin, dark cirlces under eyes and your face sags. The average adult needs 7-9 hours of sleep. You'll look dried up and exhausted if you don't have enough sleep, or poor quality sleep. Here I'll offer you some tips on how to sleep well, and get the most out of your sleep. This is the first part of my article on getting better sleep, so after reading this, look out for part 2!

STAGES OF SLEEP

Stage 1

Between consciousness and sleep. This will last for 1-10 minutes. Messages sent back and forth the brain gradually slow down. Muscles relax. Heart beat and eye movements slow down. Sometimes, when sleep is at this stage, a person may suddenly wake up, but will soon fall asleep.

Stage 2

Activities of the brain increase, the whole body loosens up and breathing is relaxed and slow. This stage lasts for 10 minutes.

Stage 3

At this stage, the body is also totally at rest. Breathing and pulse rates slow down further. A person is not easily woken up at this stage, and if he/she is woken up, he/she will feel even more tired than before he/she went to sleep. This stage lasts only for 5 minutes.

Stage 4

This stage is where one is really in deep sleep. The body relaxes completely. and the brain enters the unconscious state. If a person is woken up at this stage, it will affect the whole sleeping cycle. Most people when woken up at this stagee will be unable to have a sense of direction in 10 - 15 minutes. THis stage lasts for 30-45 minutes.

Stage 5

This takes place 60 minutes after a person falls a sleep. Large muscles will be relaxed. Small muscles may twitch. The eyeballs will start to move quickly. Dreaming usually takes place in this stage.



The Best Time to Go to Sleep

From 2:00 am to 2:30 am in the morning, the body's activities will slow down and breathing speed, pulse rate, body temperature and metabolic rate will all be very low. The prime time for sleeping is from midnight to 3 am in the morning. Some people say that if you sleep before midnight, one hour of sleep will be worth more than 2 hours of sleep after
