Applying Video Skills in Education: Part One of TwoThis set of procedures is designed to guide you in making a video commercial. It is important to remember that making a video is just like everything else that is made in using technology education. The first two steps must always be to plan and design. Just as there are many ways to write a song, or paint a picture, there are many ways to shoot video. For shooting a video, one may choose to begin with a storyboard. For most, it is preferable to have this type of structure from which to build. However, there are others that may prefer, even require, less structure, so as to allow their creative process an unconfined environment. For beginners, it is always advisable to have a structure in mind from which to build. Creating a storyboard beforehand is a good approach. This report will present ways of designing a public service video for use in an educational environment. Remember, there are no hard, fast rules to follow for the making of something which allows for creativity. Inspiration is rarely preconceived. Gagne's Nine Events of Instruction Based on information which involved the processing of theories and models of human learning, this article presents Gagne's Nine Events of Instruction as a model for facilitating the video skills lesson for which this assignment will encompass. These events are listed as follows: 1. Gain Attention: The learner will be shown several examples of captivating public service videos. This will heighten the learners' knowledge in the production of video quality, as well as other skills needed for composition, framing, and the process of designing this type of lesson. "Watch this video, and discern the intended message being conveyed. Who is the intended audience? How is the message conveyed? What conveyed the message best? What are some other ways that this message could have been conveyed?" (Ask above questions, and elicit responses) 2.Inform Learner of Objective: Video presented to the learners will contain detailed information of the lesson objectives. Clear descriptions of the desired learner outcomes are included. Terminal Objective: Given a topic, storyboard, and script, and working within a group, the K-5 certified staff will be able to pre-produce an instructional video that is motivating, interesting and informative, with minimal instructor assistance.
