Survey Development and Administration

that the post test survey was to be filled out.

Summary:

The writer was made aware of many possibilities for involving parents from the literature studied for preparation of the survey. Some of the areas that should be developed for future activities are assistance programs for literacy. Building self-esteem of the parents by allowing them a greater voice in determining the future activities held needs greater attention. A list of things that parents can do to help their child should be provided at the beginning of school in the first newsletter to go home with the child in August 2000.

They can provide a quiet place to do homework and set aside a specific time for working on their assignments. The study area should be well-lit, and have pens, pencils, paper, ruler, crayons, markers, glue, dictionary, and that sort of thing. Parents should check over the homework and try to be available for assistance. Parents can help immensely by encouraging positive attitudes toward school. Parents should require regular school attendance and do their best to set an example by attending parent-teacher conferences.

The student should take home materials and information needed to complete the assignment. They should complete the homework in a thorough, legible, and return homework on time. The student should comply with school rules and attend school regularly. They should respect the personal rights and property of others. Teachers have responsibilities to provide quality teaching and leadership. They should coordinate with other programs to make sure nightly assignments do not exceed time limits. They should offer corrective comments and recognize that students are accountable for their actions. Teachers have an obligation to respect cultural, racial and ethnic differences. http://www.thompson.com/tpg/reports/tims... It became apparent to the writer during this assignment that the school could do more in building a positive relationship with the parents and students. Some of the things that should be addressed for improvement are offered below in the form of some self-directed questions: Has your school community (staff and parents) made a visible, long-term commitment to developing family-school partnerships, which enhance student success? Does your school have a written plan for parent and/or community involvement and participation? Does your school improvement plan include objectives related to family involvement? Is there communication/sharing with non-public
