Here's what we're going to do. (You can do this with students and it's a lot of fun.) First, I would like you to surf to: http://www.ellensplace.net/okeeffe1.html Read the wonderful biography of Georgia O'Keeffe by Ellen. Enjoy the images, but try to soak in the written information, as well. Sometimes, we visual types ignore the written in favor of the graphic image. Focus on Ellen's great biography of Georgia O'Keeffe. Then, use your back button and return to this article. Go on... get going! Just be sure and come back.
Ok.I'm guessing that you really took your time and read the whole biography. Now, you have a great deal of background knowledge on Georgia O'Keeffe's life. This is going to help you interpret the images that I am placing here. It is also going to help you find out the names of all of the images. That's right! I want you to look at the images on this page, and then surf the web in search of their names, the dates they were created, and the medium used to create them! Finally, using your newly gained background knowledge of Georgia's life, write a sentence or two that might explain the author's intent behind each image. Have fun! Express yourself. Think about Georgia's life and the influences upon her artwork. Use the scanning techniques that I have mentioned in my previous articles to REALLY look at these images. Oh, and don't worry. I didn't make this little hunt too hard. If you just punch Georgia O'Keeffe into a search, you should be able to come up with lots of great sites on this fine artist. You'll also be able to find these images on the web, in almost any Art book on Georgia O'Keeffe, and in many Art History Books. Put your answers into the discussion area, if you'd like. I'd love to see your responses to these pieces. Ok-enough out of me, go play! Find the names of these images and then in the discussion area below, tell me what you think Georgia's intent or inspiration for each of them was. As always, Keep it Creative! Colleen
