The Disabled must be Informed Voters.

Informed Voting is a must:

If the disabled ever expect to institute change then they will have to change their voting habits. They cannot go to the ballot box and expect things to change if they have not first done their homework. We must know all prospective candidates voting records and only vote for those who will champion our cause. We cannot afford to vote for candidates who may not champion issues which will help us. If candidates are aware that we have done our homework, they will be less likely to try to obtain our votes through untruths or innuendo's. This is the beginning of informed voting. When we are well informed on a candidates voting record then we can cast our votes intelligently. Informed voting means that no candidate can lead us on by telling us untruths or innuendoes. When we cannot be swayed by either then and only then have we become informed voters. When we have become informed voters then and only then will we be able to insure that the status quo will change. The status quo is the way things have always been done and it resists change. When change comes it usually comes slowly.

Informed voting does not mean that we allow ourselves to go into the booth and pull a lever with blind folds on. Informed voting does not mean that we vote for a candidate based upon his speeches. Informed voting means that we have done our homework; we have learned what a particular candidates past voting record is. We know how he is likely to vote on conservative issues as well as liberal issues. We need open minded people who vote for change when change is shown to be necessary. Change for us is necessary because it is the only way that we can insure that a majority of us may once again become productive citizens.

If our research indicates that a candidate is against change then we should vote against him. Conservative voting habits will not insure that change will come in the status quo. Conservative voting habits will only insure that the status quo remains stagnant. A stagnant status quo will not help us because what is needed is change. Therefore it is a must that we know a candidates past voting record because it is a good indicator as to how he/she will vote on issues concerning disability.
