Osteoporosis is not just a Woman thing.Osteoporosis is not just a Woman thing. Usually the text of my message is about disability but this time I thought I might expand my message to include a warning for all males. Many of us males have the wrong impression that Osteoporosis is more prevalent in the feminine population, and that we don' have to worry about this potentially disabling disease. I know this is how I felt up until August 16,2003. On this date I slipped on the last step of my porch and broke my leg just above the ankle. I had to have surgery to repair the damage because my break was not a clean one. I had broken not only the tibia but also the fibula and one was in pieces. I am now put together with nuts and bolts, and have had to rely upon a wheelchair since August 18 because I can't put any weight on the shattered bones of my left leg. The doctor who respired me said that I had soft bones. which is just another way of saying that he may have Osteoporosis. I knew first hand what this insidious disease could do to a female because I have an aunt who has it. Therefore I went to my internal medicine doctor and requested a bone density scan. To my dismay it showed that my bones were losing density. The loss of bone density is an indication that one may have Osteoporosis. I was therefore placed on a once a week regiment of a drug designed to slow down if not halt the decaying of my bones because of this insidious disease. Because of this unwanted news, my having Osteoporosis, I began to research why a man could come down with this mostly female disease. I found out that it might be linked to the depletion of a hormone that gives us such enormous drive to have sex. Therefore my message to any male who may read this is if you are expering E.D., don't just reach for that miracle pill but also request a bone density test to determine if you may be in early stages of Osteoporosis. If you discover that you have this disease then by all means go on a medical regiment of a help slow down the progress of this insideous disease. If you leave it untreated them you may find that, in later life, you may appear to be like the hunchback of Notra Dame.
