Recently I received an email from one of my loyal readers pointing out something I never realized. You see when you write a regular column sometimes you tend to get a little bit of tunnel vision and forget the obvious. Well Paul pointed out that many of us tend to have copious amounts of time on our hands and so therefore we have to find a way to fill in those hours each day. Since I’m a certifiable computer geek one can usually find me whiling away my hours away in front of my computer. However as Paul pointed out some of you actually spend time doing artistic or craft endeavors. Since these types of activities could actually lead to increasing your income or even providing you with the ability to learn a new occupation I thought we could spend a little time here exploring these possibilities.
Now Paul has developed a rather interesting website devoted to Woodworking as a disabled person. The Able Workshop is a fascinating site where Paul showcases some of the projects that he has created, but he doesn’t stop there. He also provides his visitors with a diverse amount of information and has outlined numerous adjustments you can make to your work environment to make it safer to work in and more disability friendly. Paul also provides links to numerous woodworking sites where you can learn more about the possibilities of exploring this particular craft. As Paul mentions in his “Author” section of his site he normally sells his creations at craft fairs. Well recently I discovered yet another website that just might come in handy for Paul and those of you already using your artistic skills. Geezer.com is a site devoted to artisans wishing to use the World Wide Web to sell their products online. It is the newest initiative of Green Thumb Inc, a non-profit organization devoted to increasing the income of seniors, assisting them to launch a new business and providing an online presence for them to sell their products. They are in the process of increasing their market to include person’s with disabilities as artisans which will be unveiled in the next few months on their website. So if you are a craft type person like Paul you will definitely want to bookmark Geezer.com and keep an eye on this possibility since it will provide you with an opportunity to increase your market.
