Michelle's Excellent Mexican AdventureYou are also close to Colima, the capital of the state. Colima is a United Nations world heritage site. It is one of the finest Spanish Colonial cities in Mexico and it is only a 90-minute drive away. Usually included in the Colima tour is a visit to the local ruins, La Campana. These ancient ruins date pre-Inca and pre-Mayan. They are not as impressive as what you might see in Cancun but remember these ruins are considerably older, dating back approximately 4,000 years. You will also visit a local museum where you will see artifacts that have been discovered in some of the over 200 tombs that have been located in the valley. If your visit includes a Saturday stay, take in the Santiago Flea Market, the largest in the area; it is 10 blocks long and 5 blocks wide. Both tourists and locals visit this Market; don’t forget to buy a large bottle of Mexican Vanilla Extract to take home with you! The cost is unbelievably inexpensive! Manzanillo is a rare jewel on the Gold Coast of Mexico. The Karmina Palace is a reasonably accessible resort; they do make use of cobblestone extensively on the grounds so those of you in wheelchairs might have to take extra precautions for your wheelchairs while visiting. Some of you might think that Mexico is out of your reach but as you can see with careful planning you can enjoy a Mexican Adventure!
