I-Can Online

Travelling around the net I discover many websites devoted to specific disabilities that are outstanding. They tend to fill that void that many of us that are disabled search for high and low for around the net. We always hope that we will find a sense of community and belonging. This is especially true if your particular disability is uncommon.

Recently I discovered a unique website that is not disability specific but somehow still provides a sense of diversity and community. I-CanOnline is a positive, upbeat, unusual site that celebrates our lives with inspiration! Putting an emphasis on what we can accomplish rather than dwelling on whatever negatives we see getting in our way.

At present I-CanOnline is still in the development stage but I can see the potential this site will have on the online disability community. They hope to have their Official Launch just in time for the Millenium (scheduled for January 2000). Looking at the list of "channels" they are prepared to present leaves me with a sense of excitement after I've taken the time to look at the channels they have already unveiled!

Many of the areas that they plan to include within their community give me that important feeling of empowerment. Initially their plans are to include information and resources that will be predominately American based, but they do have further additional plans in the future to include international information for those of us outside those boundaries. Over the next few months I think this is going to be a very exciting site to watch, and I hope that all of you enjoy it as much as I have so far.
