Tim Burton--A Man of Vision Pt. II
Burton would star Jack Nicholson again in his next film, Mars Attacks!. This is a satire on the many bad alien attack movies that were made in the '50's as well as attacking the attitudes and lifestyle of America. It is funny and biting at the same time. Though not a great film, Burton does manage to make many important social comments--attacking everything from the government to television. And the best part is that he does it well.
Later this year, Burton's next film will be released. Sleepy Hollow brings back Burton favorites Johnny Depp, Christopher Walken, Lisa Marie, and Jeffery Jones in the telling of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This dark, gothic romance looks to another hit for Burton. The story of Ichabod Crane and how he is scared out of town by his rival for the affections of Katrina Van Tassel. Look for it this Thanksgiving.
Tim Burton's vision is apparent in all his films. His stories have a childlike innocence and humor that often belie his dark, scathing attacks. He is a director that can not only tell a story but can give it a texture that you can feel as well.
