Hi everyone. It is that time of the year again. Time to sit back in your deck chair and close your eyes. Imagine the sun, the sand, and the celebrities. Yes, time for the 52nd Cannes International Film Festival. Running from May 12-23, the Cannes Film Festival presents the movies that everyone will be talking about this year. I have included a few tidbits about this year's festival and some information about past festivals. I have listed a few of the English speaking films that will be presented--films that will open this year and are must sees. I have also listed some past festival winners - films that, if you have not seen, you should definitely check out. So, grab a bottle of champagne (thong bathing suits are optional) and let's take a look at some great movies past, present, and future.

In Competition (These are some of the films that will be competing for awards at the festival.)
* John Sayle's Limbo - A lonely fisherman falls for a lounge singer. Unexpected twists and turns.
* Tim Robbin's Cradle Will Rock Artistic freedom in 1930's New York.
* David Lynch's The Straight Story A man drives a John Deere lawn mower 350 miles to visit his sick brother.
* Peter Greenaway's 81/2 Women A father and son console each other while watching Fellini films.
* Michael Winterbottom's Wonderland A family drama centering around three sisters.
Out Of Competition (These are films by directors that have won in the past and who do not wish to compete again.)
* Kevin Smith's Dogma Two wayward angels want to destroy creation and must be stopped.
* Steven Soderbergh's The Limey An English ex-con goes to LA to find out what happened to his daughter and avenge her death.
* Oliver Parker's An Ideal Husband Love and marriage;scheming and seduction; cornered and crumbling.
* Jon Amiel's Entrapment A stolen Rembrandt and some high tech detective work make for an around the world adventure.
Un Certain Regard (This is a section that is also non-competitive and anyone can enter a film to be reviewed and possibly screened.)
* David Mamet's The Winslow Boy Family turmoil in turn of the century England.
