NOTE: If you want the files to be compatible with an operating system other than the one you are currently working in, click in the appropriate checkbox under the Compatibility heading. Note that the current operating system is selected by default; it cannot be deselected.
Batch Renaming Using the File Browser Menu
This method allows you to quickly rename all of the files in a particular folder.
- Choose File Browser from the File menu.
- Navigate to and select the folder containing the files you wish to rename.
- Choose Batch Rename from the File Browser menu (the menu is near the top right corner of the dialog box - where it says More.
- To keep the files in the same folder, leave the Rename in same folder buttons selected. To choose or create a destination folder for the resized files, click in the Move to new folder button and then on Browse. Navigate to the appropriate folder or create a new folder.
- To rename the files, choose the appropriate elements from the drop-down menus or type text into the fields. The elements you choose and the text you type will be combined to create the new names.
- Click on OK.
Note that Photoshop CS and JASC Pain Shop Pro also have batch capabilities.
In Photoshop CS, choose File > Automate > Batch.
In Paint Shop Pro, choose File > Batch > Process (or Rename, depending on what you want to do).
Other programs may have this type of command as well -- look in the help files for the word "batch."
