Fixing Red Eyed Demon Relatives - Eliminate Red Eyes with Adobe Photoshop

Additional Tips

Here are a couple of other useful things you should know about the Photoshop Element Red Eye Brush Tool:

  • If you choose a very dark color as your replacement color (such as black) and fix the eye, sometimes the color shows up lighter than the color you choose. This happens because, by default, the Red Eye Brush Tool paints transparently using a blending mode. It does this to retain any highlights that appear in the eyes. If you want to darken the effect, without obliterating the highlights, try using the Burn tool over specific areas you wish to correct.
  • The chosen brush size is used to determine the diameter of the cursor circle. Inside of this circle, all reds will be neutralized. Therefore it's usually best to work with a circle that is about the same size as the pupil you are working on, so you only have to click once or twice to get the affect you are looking for. If the circle is too big, you will end up neutralizing the skin surrounding the eye (which is what I did when I first started out, hence giving my cousin a "black & white" eye).
