The best advice is to always have a backup plan. The preparations made for Y2K serve well for all year round. It's always a good idea to have flashlights and batteries handy. And there's nothing wrong with storing some drinking water just in case trouble strikes. That's not to say you should lose sleep being all paranoid of a digital apocalypse.
