Words Make Worlds

Sep 6, 2005 - © karenjoy

I tell this story because I think it applies to all of us. The words we hear every day help to make up our worlds, too. THE WORDS WE TELL OURSELVES AND THE WORDS WE ALLOW OTHERS TO SPEAK TO US MATTER IMMENSELY. Ever notice that 'little voice' inside that tosses out a comment when you see yourself in a mirror or a window reflection as you pass by? What does that voice say? How about those passing comments from your spouse or even your teen? Sometimes the only way to "get" respect is to expect it, including from yourself (this may take some re-training!). Now that we are adults and no longer being abused, dignity is something we have to relinquish, either by our own behavior, or by acquiescence, in order to lose. This is a choice we can each make. Start by looking at the things that make up your world.
