Breastfeeding: Benefits for Moms and Babies


Finally, breastfeeding helps babies to develop their jaws, tongue, and palate because it requires more effort than bottle-feeding. Perhaps most importantly, breastfeeding imposes periods of togetherness between mother and infant, with lots of skin-on-skin contact that helps in promoting attachment and bonding.

Benefits of Breastfeeding for You
Breastfeeding also provide benefits for mothers. Breastfeeding helps to shrink the uterus to its prepregnancy size and helps you burn off fat. It also can delay the return of your menstrual cycle (though it should not be construed as a reliable form of contraception). Some research suggests that breastfeeding can help to protect women against premenopausal breast cancer. In addition to these benefits, breastfeeding is economical and relatively convenient. It also gives you a chance to sit down, rest, and bond with your baby, and we all know how important downtime is for new moms!
