Midnight Louie's Pet Detectives by Carole Nelson Douglas

Just recently I changed my topic to cover mysteries, which includes all of the subgenres such as pulp fiction, detective fiction and the subgenres, thrillers, suspense, etc.

We will be looking at each of these categories so that you will become familiar with the different subgenres.

To start this study, we will look at how animals are detectives or how they help their master to solve cases.

In the last two articles that were written by Terrie Bittner, you learned about an author, Lilian Jackson Braun, who has written the Cat Who series featuring Koko and Yum Yum. These two cats are partners-in-crime-solving with Jim Qwilleran. They help Jim solve cases.

"The Dark One," by Lilian Jackson Braun is a short story featured in "Midnight Louie's Pet Detectives" edited by Carole Nelson Douglas, who is also features a famous cat, Midnight Louie.

In "The Dark One," Dakh Won is the name of the Siamese cat who helps his master, Hilda, out. Hilda's husband, Jack has not been treating his wife with respect. He's threatened to kill her as well. Hilda likes Dakh Won, but Jack doesn't. One day, they argue, and Hilda and Dakh Won run out of the house. Jack chases after them. During the chase, something happens. Now, it's up to you to figure out what happened.

I recommend this story and book very highly. Anyone interested in animals will find this book entertaining.

Next time, I'll be reviewing another short story or two.
