All Through The Night by Mary Higgins Clark"All Through The Night" is another suspense book by the Queen of Suspense, Mary Higgins Clark. This particular book features Alvirah and Willy, who are married. They are the two characters who solve the case of the missing baby, the missing chalice, and the accuracy of the will. In the first chapter, a young woman named Sondra leaves her newborn infant girl on the doorstep of a church. After she leaves she waits to see if anyone comes after the baby. Then, she calls the church to let them know a baby was left on the doorstep. Later on, a man comes to the church and takes the money that was placed in the offering boxes. He also takes the stroller and the baby back to his place. He tells his Aunt Lilly that the baby's mother was sick and couldn't take care of her, so she left the baby with him. They call her Star. His aunt tells him that in Italy, she would be called Stellina. In the second chapter, the scene opens seven years later. Alvirah and Willy are helping with the Christmas pageant at an after school shelter. During this time, Sondra appears and finally tells Alvirah that she is the one who left the infant on the doorstep of the church. Sondra begins to feel guilty about leaving her infant daughter like she did. She wants to find her daughter so she can see if she is all right. Sondra keeps wondering where she is and what she looks like since she is seven. Throughout the book, Alvirah and Willy are investigating three cases. Their first case is the missing chalice. They need to find out who stole the chalice from the church. Their second case is the missing infant. Alvirah wants to help Sondra find her child. Their third case is to find out if the will is a fake. The shelter has been willed to a couple. Alvirah believes the will is a fake. Throughout the book, different clues are brought out that help Willy and Alvirah with their investigation. Now, you'll have to read the book to see if these cases are solved. Think about these questions: Is the kidnapper caught? Why did he take the chalice and the baby? Why is the shelter going to be moved? Is the will a fake? Does Sondra ever see her daughter again?
