Book Review - "Killing Cassidy" by Jeanne M. Dams

Killing Cassidy by Jeanne M. Dams

This is a book review of Killing Cassidy by Jeanne M. Dams. The main people were Dorothy Martin and her husband, Alan Nesbitt.

Dorothy and her husband lived in a village in England. One day, Dorothy received a letter that she was to receive an inheritance as a result of the death of a friend, Kevin, she has known for several years.

When Dorothy and her husband, who was a detective, came to the States to claim their inheritance, they found out in a letter that Dorothy was given by a lawyer that Kevin was convinced someone was trying to murder him. Besides claiming their inheritance, they now had a case to solve. They decided that they would investigate the different people without letting them know why they were actually there.

In the beginning of the book, Dorothy and Alan discussed the different steps they needed to take to solve their investigation. First of all they had to go shopping for some notebooks and pens to take down notes that had been revealed to them about the case. When they returned to the place where they were staying, they started writing down some information.

The first thing they needed to find out was the cause of Kevin's death and who was there when he died. After that, Alan told Dorothy that they needed to find out three things. He said, "The classic triad: means, motive, opportunity. These are the important steps detectives use to investigate a murder case." Alan told Dorothy that they needed to start with finding the cause of Kevin's death and then investigate the different motives that people may have had. After the different motives have been revealed, then they needed to investigate the people who were around Kevin during the last two weeks or so of his life. After that, they would try to find out who had the opportunity to commit murder.

The next item on their list was to interview the different people they had listed. After that, they wanted to find out what caused Kevin to be suspicious of people and what made him think someone was trying to murder him. Throughout the rest of the book, Dorothy and Alan conducted their investigation. Now you'll have to read the book to find out who murdered Kevin, or if he was even murdered.

I recommend this book highly. It was very interesting and easy to read. The language was clean. I think that Jeanne M. Dams is an excellent writer and am looking forward to reading other books by her. The Body in Transept is her first mystery that features Dorothy Martin.
