Hey kids! Here's a great book for you to read!

Nate the Great and Me by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat. This particular book is titled The Case of the Fleeing Fang.

The characters in the book are Nate, Annie, Pip, Esmeralda, Claude, Finley, Harry, Rosamond, two dogs named Fang and Sludge. Sludge belongs to Nate. Fang is Annie's dog.

One day Fang disappears. Nate teaches the other children to be detectives. Throughout the book there are several clues that Nate reveals to help the children find Fang. The children have gathered together for a "Happy Detective Day." Nate likes to be a detective and help other children solve the problems. The children enjoy learning how to be detectives. Everyone tries to find Fang. Now you'll have to read the book to find out if they found Fang, where he was, and how they located him.

This is a quick and easy book to read. It contains six chapters. In the last section of the book, There is a certificate for those who have completed Nate's Detective course. Also, there is a secret code that children have to figure out. Each letter of the alphabet has a different symbol. The children have to fill in the blanks so they can solve the code.

Nate also has recipes for children to make. These recipes are things that he made for his Detective Party. They are the following: Nate's Pancake Recipe, Potato Pancakes, and Strawberry Milkshake Surprise.

Also in the last section, Nate lists several tips on how to be a great detective. They are the following:

(1) Think. He is trying to tell children that they first need to think about the situation before they try to solve it.

(2) Help. Nate wants people to feel free to get others to help them solve the cases. Sludge is Nate's helper.

(3) Remember. Nate believes it is important for people to remember what happened before the incident. In other words, what happened just before Fang disappeared.

(4) Notice environment. Nate is trying to show children that they need to search their environment and see if there is anything unusual happening.

(5) Searching for Clues. After the children notice their surroundings, then they search for clues.

(6) Asking questions is the next step. In order to be good detectives, Nate tells children they need to ask questions.

(7) Gathering information. After that, they sort out the important facts and discard the ones that are not as important.
