Solution to "Where's Julie's Mother?"

© Janet Kay Blaylock

Last week, I wrote a story plot titled "Where's Jule's Mother?" that readers were to solve. Here is the solution to the story plot.

Julie first noticed that her mother was depressed. Then, her mother told her that she would call her and let her know who and when somebody would pick her up.

This statement was out of the ordinary because Julie's mother always took her to school and picked her up. It indicates that something was wrong with Julie's mother and she wasn't planning on picking her up from school.

Julie's mother failed to call Julie like she said she would or to pick her up after school.

Since Julie's mother didn't call or come, Julie knew something was wrong.

Julie's teacher tried to contact her mother, but she found out that the phone was disconnected.

This is another clue that something was wrong with Julie's mother. It shows that she left her house and wasn't coming back.

Her teacher took Julie home. When they arrived at Julie's house, they saw that the house was dark and the car was gone.

This is another clue that something strange has happened to Julie's mother.

Julie's teacher, Miss Jones, took her to her house. Then she called Detective Mallory.

Detective Mallory began gathering clues during his conversation with Julie. Julie told him that her mother was going to call the school and let her know who and when somebody was going to pick her up.

After that, they went to Julie's house. Julie picked up the hidden key. As they entered, they saw that the furniture was gone.

Suddenly, Detective Mallory questioned Julie about people who have picked her up from school. Julie said that her mother was the only one her took her to school and picked her up.

She also told Detective Mallory that her mother was depressed today. After that, Julie repeated that her mother always took her to school and picked her up, but today she said she would call and let her know who and when somebody would come.

Detective Mallory gathered the clues and came to the conclusion that her mother was having financial difficulties and left Julie with her teacher because she felt Miss Jones would be able to care for her better until she was settled in another place. Also, in the first paragraph, I stated that Julie's mother wanted to provide the things Julie wanted and needed. She also didn't want Julie to know she was having financial problems.
