Another purpose of the maze was for punishing women who have cursed their husbands. These are the women he has chosen to go through the maze and face death. He felt like it was his duty to purify their souls.
Marlin also said, " ‘My father loved mazes. He said they were a work of art when done well. He taught me how to build mazes' " (114).
Throughout the book, Catherine Coulter has brought out different passages about the maze. When authors mention something several times throughout the book, that is their theme and what they are focusing on. By learning to reading for a deeper meaning, readers will receive more from their reading than just reading for pleasure.
