This is the solution to last week's puzzle, "The Car Theft."
Last week, I gave readers a hint to solve the puzzle. The hint was the following: Each person made two trips to get the cars.
CLUES: Al drove the red and the blue cars but did not ride with Carl. Ben drove the white and blue cars Carl drove the red and green cars. Dave drove the white and gray cars On the first trip to the parking garage, Al and Ben went together. Al drove the blue car, and Ben drove the white car. (Either Ben and Dave could have driven the white car on the first trip since they both drove the white car. If Dave was placed here, then Ben had to drive on the third trip with Carl.) On the second trip, Ben and Carl came together. Ben drove the blue car, and Carl drove the red car. Only Al and Ben drove the blue car, but since Al didn't ride with Carl, then Ben came. On the third trip, Dave and Carl returned. Dave drove the white car, and Carl drove the green car. This was the only time the green car was used, and Carl was the only one who drove the green car. Ben also drove the white car, but he had already made two trips. Therefore, Dave came. (If readers had Dave making the first trip, then Ben needs to be placed here. Either position will work.) On the last trip, Al and Dave came to pick up the gray car. Al drove the red car, and Dave drove the gray car. Since Al had made only one trip so far, he came with Dave. Dave had to come because he was the only one who drove the gray car. Go To Page: 1
