Meika's Secret

Detective Mallory was called to investigate a robbery that occurred across the street from where Meika and her parents live. When Detective Mallory came over to Meika's house to question her parents.

"I'm Detective Mallory. Last night, your neighbors across the street were robbed. Have you heard anything about the robbery?"

"I heard about it this morning, but we weren't home when it happened," Meika's father replied.

"I see. Well, if you hear anything else, please let me know as soon as possible."

"We will," Meika's father replied.

Meika sat on the sofa and listened, so she could find out what happened. Meika, who was six-years-old has a vivid imagination and likes to make up stories. Meika's bedroom was decorated in blue and yellow. She had lots of toys to play with, but her favorite toy was her dog, Abby. There was something unusual about her toys. Even Meika was unaware of what it was. However, one day Meika was sent to her room because she had disobeyed. When she was all alone in her room and started crying, she discovered a secret.

Meika tried to tell her parents that she knew who committed the crime. "Mommy, Daddy, I know who robbed them."

"How do you know? You weren't even home at the time of the robbery," her mother replied.

"I just know. I can't tell you how."

"Meika, stop making up stories."

"I'm not. I know who robbed the neighbors."

"Meika, I think you need to go to your room," her father ordered. Meika used the upstairs phone to call Detective Mallory. She told him what happened. He told her he would stop by and visit with her.

When he arrived, Meika's parents tell him they don't believe her story. Detective Mallory tells them he will investigate the evidence and see what he can find out.

QUESTIONS:

What is Meika's secret about the toys?

Will she tell her parents how she knows who committed the crime?

Solution will appear next week.
