The Case of the E-mail Buddies

Meika Stevens, who is a freelance writer, is married to Michael. Michael is a salesman and travels out of town on the weekends. He leaves on Friday and returns on Sunday night. Michael doesn't come home on Sunday evening like he usually does. Meika becomes worried and calls a private detective named Detective Mallory. "My name is Meika Stevens. My husband, Michael, didn't come home yesterday. Can you help me?" "Where do you live?" Detective Mallory asked. Meika gives him the address and he tells her he will be over in a half hour. The doorbell rings and Meika answers it. "I'm Detective Mallory." "Please come in. I hope you can find what happened to my husband and Tracy." "Tracy. You didn't mention her name when you called." "I realize that. Tracy is someone I met on the Internet. I wrote to her about her and her husband getting together with Michael and me, but I haven't heard back from her. We always responded to each other right away." "Tell me what happened." "A week after I got my computer, I got something published on the Internet. This helped me to have more things published and have my own site, which is Detective Fiction." "You like to write Detective Fiction stories?" "Sure. I think it's exciting to solve cases." "It can be at times. You never know what kind of case you will be working on or how it will be solved." "That's true." "Tell me what happened." "Tracy saw some of my published works on the Internet and began to write to me. I have her first e-mail message." Meika showed Detective Mallory the letter. He read it aloud. "I saw the stories on your site. My name is Tracy Stevens. I was just wondering if we were related. I'm a freelance writer, too. I have a mystery site. My site is similar to yours. I'd like to meet you sometime. Here is my address. Where do you live? Send me a message as soon as you can. It would be neat if we were related. I'm looking forward to hearing from you, Tracy Stevens." "I began pondering over the possibility of being related to Tracy. She would have to be related to Michael, since Stevens is my married name. I thought she might be a cousin. When Michael came home from work, I told him I was on the internet today and came in contact with someone named Tracy Stevens. I told him that Tracy was wondering if we were related. After that, I asked him if he knew someone named Tracy Stevens."
