Where's Penny?"Bill, Penny hasn't come home from school, yet. She should have been here by now." "Maybe she's at a friend's house." "That's possible. I'll call Kelly. She's Penny's best friend." "Kelly, this is Penny's mother. Is Penny over there?" "No. I'm not sure where she is, but she got a ride with some man after school who said he knew you." "Oh no!" "Do you know what he looked like?" "Yes. I'll come over and talk with you in person." "Thanks, Kelly." When Kelly arrived, she said, "The man asked Penny if she was Penny Jenkins. He said he was a friend of yours and that you wanted him to pick her up because you weren't going to be home." Shortly, the doorbell rang. Bill answered it and saw two police detectives. "Mr. Jenkins, I'm Ron Callaway and this is Jim Mallary." "Come in. Penny was kidnapped. Kelly, Penny's best friend, saw who took her. "This is Kelly, Penny's father said. "Did you see who took Penny?" Detective Mallary asked. "Yes. He said Penny's parents weren't going to be home and that he was a friend of her parents. Penny asked him where her parents were. He said he didn't know. All he was to do was to pick her up. Before she went with him, I asked her if she was sure she should go with him. She told me it was all right since he said he was a friend of her parents. After that, I asked her if she knew him. She told me she didn't, but that she would be all right. They left and headed south toward the country." "You''ve been a great help. We'll head south and search for her," Detective Callaway said. "I tried to stop Penny because she didn't know the man, but she said she would be all right," Kelly said, with tears in her eyes. "She'll be all right. We'll find her," Detective Mallary said. Detective Callaway and Mallary left and started their search. They headed south and searched along the road. They stopped at every house and questioned people. Finally, they arrived at a restaurant just outside the city limits and started asking questions. Within a few minutes, Penny entered the restaurant and walked up to two police detectives. "Help me." They looked at her, and one of them asked, "Are you Penny Jenkins?" "Yes," Penny replied, with a surprised look on her face, as she gasped for breath.
