This is a review of two short stories written by Edward D. Hoch. I have been reading some of his stories and have really enjoyed them. The stories I read for this article are "High School Reunion" and "The Street With No Houses."

High School Reunion

Nancy Trentino is the policewoman who is featured in this story. She is a Detective Sergeant. She was invited to her high school reunion. However, her high school reunion turns out to be a case for her to solve.

Greg Arbore was there. He was married to Ursula, but Ursula was killed awhile back. Nancy was asking Greg what happened to her. Greg told her that Ursula apparently committed suicide. He also told Nancy that he was now planning on marrying Milly.

Greg also told Nancy that it looked like she bumped her head on the seat belt when she fell over, When Nancy heard that, she became suspicious. Something didn't seem right to her. Then, the answer came to her, and she knew who the murderer was.

Now, you'll have to read the story to find out what happened.

The Street With No Houses

This was also a great story. Nancy Trentino was the policewoman featured in this story, too. Lisa Gold, a former college classmate, was married to Phil. She was also pregnant. They lived in an area where there were not any other houses. The houses were going to be built. Phil was away for the holiday, the Fourth of July, and Lisa wanted Nancy to come and visit. Nancy agreed to come, but she didn't know that she was going to be involved in a case on her day off.

When Nancy arrived, Lisa mentioned to her that she had seen lights in the area near their house. It was on the street where there weren't any other houses. She didn't know what was happening and why there would be lights when there weren't any houses. Nancy wasn't sure if she really saw it either. Lisa also told her that drugs were being sold to students in the schools.

Shortly, their heard police sirens and saw the mail man delivering mail. They asked him what was happening. He said that a dead body had been found in the street over there. Nancy and Lisa went to see who it was. Since Nancy was a policewoman, she wanted to see if she could help even though it wasn't her jurisdiction. After talking with the policeman investigating the case, Nancy realized who the murderer was.
