And the Curtain Closes…

I am writing this in the anticipation of getting a new topic here on Suite101. It's April 18th, 2001. I turn 25 years old today at 4:14 in the afternoon. I was born on Easter Sunday in 1976. I know of at least two people born on the same day. One I've met personally (went to school with them) the other I've never met but she's a television actress. Ever since I can remember there are a few things I've been doing with my life. Playing Games has been one of them.

I think everyone grows up playing games of some kind or another. And usually after a certain time, some people stop playing games. We have more important things to do it seems, like work, chores, watching television, writing bills. The time for games disappears. I've never lost time for games however. I still play them with whoever is available. Cards with my in-laws, word games with children, the alphabet game while on the road. And since I was 10 years old I think, I have been trying to make my own games.

So 15 years in the making that I have been working at it. I still haven't gotten it write. Taking a few wrong turns down the paths of life have placed me outside of the gaming industry. Instead it has placed me in a programming position with friends all over the World. And while I strive to get into the gaming industry some day, I work and learn and continue my own efforts to create simple games for me, and my friends.

So where am I going if I am bidding you farewell? For over a year now, I have been doing something called ArtExercise. Simply put, I give a topic each week to whoever will listen and participate and I along with other people produce a piece of art on that topic. I have done this using my own web space and time and several of my members have expressed gratitude or excitement over ArtExercise because it makes them think differently. I try to be informative and thought provoking.

And I think I have succeeded so far. It was about the same time that I joined into Suite101 to write on Designing New Games. Both ventures over the past year have been successful, but now I'm ready to join them together. Is it more work for me? You bet. But I am running out of ideas for Designing new Games. I feel currently I've said all that needs to be said to help some people think differently about game design or to begin thinking about game design. I've reached a dry spell, forgive me.
