Journal of Creation: DragonGrace 2

Often times in roleplaying games I have a hard time wondering where I am at and where things happen. A world map, or at least a continental map would be most useful in finding these things out. This is a large problem in general homebrewed games. You travel and travel until the GM decided something happens or you hit water and have to turn a different direction. So in light of my pet peeve I decided that DragonGrace needs some kind of general basis on which to be seen.

This idea of needing or rather wanting a world different from Earth and on which DragonGrace would be played comes in part from a screen saver. Terranova is what it is called. It is by John Walker and a web site associated with it is http://www.fourmilab.ch . Sometimes I let this run rampant across my computer screen during my lunch break and it supplies me with a new world every minute or so. As each world comes across the computer screen I wonder many different things about the supposed planet. Such as: What kind of weather patterns does the globe have? What kind of Cultures have developed there? How does one get from place to place? How high are the mountains? How deep are the oceans? What kind of Animal life has developed on that planet?

***** Note: Terranova I believe is freeware. The screensaver itself can be found here http://www.fourmilab.ch/terranova/saver/ but I encourage people to look through his site because it is neat (as in clean) and interesting. Lots of stuff to look at and through. Terranova generates a random planet every so often on the screen (you set the interval) and gives you the option of saving the image to the clipboard. Which I didn't do in this case but memory has allowed me to fudge the details. *****

As you can see I have no life at lunch time. It's always eat fast and back to work. (If only I was doing what I want to be doing!) At any rate, when a world came across the screen (Seeing only have of it at the time) I thought that it was the most interesting one I had seen in a while and immediately sketched a quick rough draft. I watched the screen for a good other side of the world picture to come up and several minutes later I had a good idea for a globe that was interesting to think about on many different levels especially roleplaying possibilities.
