A Dragon, Be Dragon, See DragonOr maybe it isn't quite so new. After all concepts have been done over and over again in the gaming industry it's just what kind of twist you can put on the idea. I have developed a small program to help me choose what kind of game to talk about next in this editorial. The program had spit out many variations on what to talk about but being the fantasy buff that I am I have decided on a 4 player computer game about dragons. Dragons have lived in the fantasy mind of every RolePlayer this side of the Moon. Every Now and then I do see a game that has dragons or might let you be one but perhaps a few good ideas on games that are solely dragons would satisfy a little curiosity. I think the first kind of game that would come to mind might be a fighting game. Like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. Pick about 8 colors of dragons and pit them against each other basedon the typical D&D types. White dragon is an Ice Dragon, A Red Dragon is a Fire Dragon and so forth. You could even add a little extra to the game and each win will give you points to point toward your dragon. You could increase their breath weapon, special move, strength or age. I think that although this is not a new idea anymore, it is still a good idea and given the experience factor might prove to re-enegerize interest in the genre. Another Dragon game has old roots but not many common or popular public Roots. A Dragon Roleplaying game. Dragonlance might come close with it Draconian bad guys but to play a full fledged dragon isn't a common task. Usually your are larger than all your comrades and a misguided sneeze wipes out a small village. But perhaps if everyone in the world were a dragon. On a planet the size of Jupiter it would be a normal (in a dragon sense) world. What a difference a game might be if everyone were a dragon and had different dragon abilities instead of human characters. Perhaps if we take this idea ultimately to the interenet like Ultima Online, we can easily develop strategy games in which four players enter a room and start to face off against each other in dragon style. Grow armies and find weapons or power. Spies and political strife might run rampant in a four player game of Dragon.
