Tivoli
Today Tivoli holds many restaurants with everything from fast food to fine dining, bars, cafés game halls, souvenir shops and many amusements. The atmosphere has clearly changed from being an up-scale garden to today being a family oriented park where you come as you are and have all the fun and excitement you want. Many people still visit Tivoli just to relax, look at people, sit down at one of the many outdoor restaurants and cafés enjoying a drink or a cup of coffee, walking through the gardens looking at the various water fountains and feeding the fish and the ducks in the lakes or scrolling down the narrow little streets which take you back to another time. And every Wednesday and Saturday night Tivoli has a tremendous firework show as well. Besides from all the restaurants and the amusements Tivoli also has a place called the Glassalen and an outdoor scene called Plænen with lots of entertainment every week. The entertainment varies from travelling circuses, acrobats, stand-ups and ballet to both national and international singers. Some of the entertainment in April will be a ballet about the life of Danish writer H.C. Andersen (see previous article), the Royal Danish Brass, Easter fun for the kids, gospel music with Etta Cameron, modern dance, funk music by 'Ridin Thumb' and a 'Musical Greatest' with songs by many different performers. Every Friday night at 10 p.m. Danish time Tivoli has arranged a 'Young in Tivoli' event with rock music under the open sky. This year Tivoli will open up after the winter on April 11 and I know that I will be one of the first ones there to see the new amusements and enjoy the atmosphere....
