Theme decorating can be fun and interesting. It can give you a polished or finished look. But, it also can have many drawbacks! Let's consider some of the advantages and disadvantages of "theme decorating". Hopefully, this well help you in your decision if, you are considering decorating with a theme.
Theme decorating would consist of a specified treatment or subject for a space. For example, if you decided to decorate a nursery in a Mickey Mouse theme. You would know exactly what to look for when you started shopping. You could find fabrics with Mickey Mouse on it as well as, many matching accessories. Also, friends and family would have no problem finding something under that same theme. Doesn’t it sound like a great way to pull a room together? By keeping everything on a specified track, you can avoid some of the chaos of picking colors or finding coordinating fabrics and accessories. I believe there are basically two types of theme decorating, those, which are specific, and those, which are more generalized. The list below shows examples of themes, which are very specific: · Cows · Sunflowers · Ducks · Blue & White China · Lighthouses · Apples As for advantages, the first set of themes are, already coordinated for you by manufacturer designers. To make it even easier, most department stores, display the products in a way to show you the different coordinating pieces. Thus, you pick your theme, go shopping, and come home to put together an entire room in an afternoon. Disadvantage, though, is when you decide to change your look. Nine times out of ten you won’t be able to use any of the items from your previous theme. This may be fine if it’s perhaps from a nursery room and you can pass it on to a family member. But if it is a major room in your home, such as the family room, you may tire out of the theme look very quickly. Such rooms are generally used on a regular basis, thus shortening your tolerance of the same look. Also, if you choose a room with large furnishings, changing themes could prove to be very expensive. In contrast, the following are more generalized themes, thus leaving space for changes and growth: · Flowers · Seashore · Sports · Country · Modern · Traditional Here, one of my favorite advantages is individuality. By using a more generalized theme, you have a large variety of choices in materials to fit your personality. You can still take advantage of the designer pre-packaged products. But by mixing patterns and textures of other pre-packaged materials, such as bed-in-a-bag, you can change the entire look by maybe making your curtains in a coordinating but not matching fabric. Thus when you decide you want to refresh your look, you may only need to buy different curtains or introduce another color into the palette. Go To Page: 1 2
