Creating Office Space/Part IAs I sit here at my computer, I think of how many times I have moved my desk around from room to room; trying to find just the right spot. A spot with plenty of natural light and a pleasant view. How about you? Do you wish you had a more pleasant place for writing letters, doing homework, or doing bills? Most homes today have some sort of office space. Because of our busy lifestyles, we all need somewhere to sit and organize things. Creating your own office space doesn't have to be a major undertaking. Whether you have a formal office in a separate room; a spare closet that's been converted; or just a simple table in the corner of a room, you can still make it a place you enjoy sitting, even for paying bills. Let's consider some of the options. 1) CLOSET OFFICE: After emptying the closet and removing the hanger bar, you will want to prepare your background area of your space. This can be done with paint techniques or possibly wallpaper. This won't be expensive because you don't need much of either. For a desk top, you can go to the local home improvement store and have them cut you a 3/4 inch of wood the width and depth of your closet space. You can also buy 1/2 round molding or some other decorative trim to finish off the front edge of your desk shelf. Measure a comfortable height for mounting your desk. To mount your desk, attach "L" brackets on three sides of the board and then attach to wall studs(toggles can be used if you can't find studs). Over the "L" brackets, attach 2x2's to the sides and back of the closet for extra support. A shelf for your monitor can be mounted in a similar way. For lighting you can use undershelf lights that run by battery. These are simply mounted with double stick tape or screws. Now you can add a bulletin board and storage shelves above your desk. Baskets on the shelves would be great for organizing. You can also have convenient storage underneath your desk by using inexpensive drawer units on wheels. Attaching a simple skirt (ruffled or box pleats), can be used to cover this storage when you want it out of sight. Now that you have the bones of your office, you can add your own personal touches.
