WHITE WALL PHOBIA!

You sit in your new environment and look around. All you see is white. This includes the walls and ceilings, the kitchen cabinets, the curtains.... all of which are white. How do you go about putting your own personal decorating imprint on such a stark, cold surface? You can still remember the restrictions written in the rental contract flashing before you like a neon sign; "No unauthorized painting. No changing of curtains." So where do you go from here?

Take heart, all is not lost. Instead of seeing an impersonal and cold space, look at it as a clean blank surface waiting for your bouquet of ideas and personality. The sky is the limit to your decorating options. You are bound only by your imagination.

Let's consider the challenge and our resources to overcome it. First of all, double check exactly what your restrictions are in your rental agreement. Now you are ready to begin. The tip for decorating with a white background is to add interest through color and texture. For instance:

Ø Fabrics- By using fabrics you can add color, design, and texture, as well as, a certain theme or style. You can make or buy a valance to punch up those generic curtains. In this way you can add color and texture, as well as, change your theme. Bookshelves help add height and interest against white walls. Whether you have warm and familiar old books with their intricate bindings, the latest bestseller, or your collection of paperbacks, it gives you places to add a punch of personality. This is also a good place to display family photos or maybe a reward or certificate you have earned.
