EVERYTHING'S COMING UP ROSES!

Spring is here and the flowers are blooming! It just makes me feel great after a long cold winter. Maybe its not quite spring where you live but you can bring the feeling of spring in a room in your home.

I chose my bedroom to bring a rose garden effect. My idea was to make my own private haven; a secret garden of sorts! :) I began by picking my color schemes: greens in sage and loden; burgundy and rose; neutrals in ivory, taupe, and champagne in tone on tone embossed textured fabrics. Keeping these colors in mind, I started picking my fabrics. But I didn't go out and buy a bunch of coordinating fabrics at one time. For one thing it can prove to be very expensive and you may find some of your accent fabrics at a better price.

My first fabric was a gorgeous embossed damask in ivory. I actually found this fabric a couple of years ago. Since it was a neutral color and such a great price I knew I would find a use for it. It was on a clearance table at the fabric store. It was only 2.00 a yard and I had to search through the piles to come up with 6yrds. But the pieces were large and definitely worth it. :) Next was 2yrds of loden green in a satin at a 1.00yd; perfect for an accent pillow. My greatest find was a rose print tapestry with all of my colors, at WalMart for only 3.00yd. I bought 8yrds so that I would have plenty for all of my accents and bedding. Next came the the cotton blend @ 1.00yd at another WalMart. The background was cream with a scroll design embossed in ivory and an overlay of sage green stripes. I thought this would be good for curtains but hadn't made up my mind so I bought 8yrds. The last fabric was a cream and taupe damask in a scroll print. With the foundation of my fabrics chosen, I turned my attention to my walls.

The walls already had a cream and gold sponge effect. I added a third color of pale sage green and sponged in lightly on three of the walls. On the window wall, I did a cross hatch effect with a golden loden green color. The ceiling is still off white but I may change it to a golden sponge effect later on. As for the floor, I put down a parquet floor a few months ago. I also have a 5 X 8 rug with the same color pallete. It has the scroll leaf pattern around the edges and large floral print, in coordinating colors, in the middle.
