What Do You Know About Jack Kevorkian aka Dr. Death? (Part 1)

will also give comments on how this information impacted my feelings as a nurse and the questions that it brought to my mind.

Jack Kevorkian was of Armenian descent. His parents were immigrants that escaped the holocaust of the Armenians by the Turks. Dr. Kevorkian often stated that the Jews did not suffer as much as the Armenians because Armenians were brutally tortured while most of the Jews were just put to death in the gas chambers. Did he hear this discussed as a child? Did it desensitize him to death from his early beginnings in childhood? He did pay attention to the experimentation by the Nazis during WWII.

Jack was actually born on May 28, 1928, in Pontiac, Michigan. Did growing up during The Great Depression help to make Jack the frugal man he became? He certainly did not become involved in his cause to get rich. He didn't charge for assisting in the suicides he attended. He lived in a tiny abode with sparse furnishing. Jack was most comfortable dressed in clothes he bought in thrift stores.

And what did he want to be when he grew up? He loved to play street games and listen to baseball games on the radio. He was highly intelligent, read voraciously and loved to draw. He was a loner and so bored in school that he got into trouble for throwing spitballs. He was advanced to junior high to solve the boredom. He really wanted to be a baseball announcer.

How did he end up being a doctor then? Could it be because he was good at chemistry and physics? Was he already interested in the subject of death? Did he want to be a famous figure in history? We do know that doctors, in that day, were seen almost, as "gods" and their thoughts, words, advice and decisions were never questioned?

In my next article, I will talk about the early medical career of Dr. Kevorkian leading up to his development of his ideas on planned death and the invention of his death machine.
