Daytime Emmy Nominations

Well the Daytime Emmy nominations were announced and once again Days was all but shut out. The show received only two technical nominations and none for actors. While the show has not been outstanding the past year there are some actors who have done really great jobs.

But the Emmy awards have long been about how many actors a show can get to vote for their picks and not about the most deserving actors. Don't get me wrong, there are some deserving actors in this year's crowd but there are some who should not be there as well.

The Emmy awards voting process has been under scrutiny for quite some time. Many people complain about the practice of block voting and how it seems that year after year the most deserving actors do not get nominated. This leaves most soap fans wondering if the Emmy awards truly reflect the best of the best.

Days has not had an outstanding year overall as a soap, the stories have dragged on, some have not even been interesting but there are several actors who gave great performances this year. Here are my picks for the best of the best on Days this past year.

Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell. Their performances through the baby switch storyline have been just great. They have had to deal with baby switches, past memories of Gina and raising a baby and a teenage son all at the same time. These two have worked hard and given really great performances this past year.

Arianne Zucker has taken Nicole from a barely noticed character to a standout. She makes Nicole a character worth watching, worth sympathizing with, worth rooting for. She was terrific in the scenes with her now dead father Paul and her mother Faye in the wrenching scenes about her childhood traumas.

Lauren Koslow as Kate plays both loving mother and scheming mother in law so well you start to believe what she is doing is okay. Her battles with Sami are legendary and she makes being bad look really good. Her trip from wealthy Kiriakis wife, to deli waitress, to a new job at Basic Black she always held your attention doing it.

These actors made the storylines they had television worth watching. They are all great actors and it would have been nice to see them nominated. I am not sure why Days is continually shut out of Emmy acting nominations but one can only hope that will change in years to come.
