Is That A Backbone I See?

Can it be that Austin has FINALLY decided to grow a backbone and stand up to Sami?! Surely not after all these years of letting her manipulate and tell him what to do he is finally going to stand up for himself!

Austin has let Sami manipulate him from the minute she laid eyes on him. No matter what awful thing she did he just kept on following after her like a puppy. She drugged him, slept with his brother, had a child with his brother, broke up his marriage, did terrible things to his mother and told him lie, after lie, after lie. But he went along with whatever she said and whatever she wanted without so much as a raised eyebrow.

This past week though he finally stood up to her, finally told her that it was HIS life and he would do what he wanted! I couldn't believe it! After all this time he finally stood up straight and proved he had a backbone after all! Why is it that actor's who are about to leave a show almost always turn in their best work ever?

If Austin had showed this backbone years ago he wouldn't be just about to marry Sami. He would most likely still be married to Carrie or even not married at all but he would be his own man. When Austin first came on the show years ago he was a strong character, had his own mind but somewhere along the way he let Sami take control and he has not been his own man since.

Austin even stood up to the great Victor. He refused to be shipped off to Hawaii and really acted like he wanted to stay in Salem not only for his family but for his job. Sami of course was truly outraged by this display of backbone and she won't be pushed back so easily. The only thing that could possibly take Sami down a few pegs would be if Austin left her at the alter and left her for good. The one thing she has schemed for, lied for, blackmailed for all these years leaving her high and dry. It would be truly what she deserves. But can Austin's backbone hold out that long? Or will Sami reel him in once again and pull the same old wool over his eyes?

If Austin's backbone continues to get stronger I would say that Sami's chances of getting him to the alter and actually married to her are slim and none. A man with his eyes wide open and a backbone would never marry the likes of Sami. It's just too bad it took Austin all these years to finally get his backbone back.
