2001 Best and Worst

The end of the year is near and time once again to reflect on the best and worst that Days had to offer this year. The show had a good share of worsts and very few bests this past year and here's hoping the new year brings a lot more bests!

BEST COUPLE: Shawn and Belle are far and away the best couple on the show. They are also one of the best couples in all of daytime. They are sweet and are confronting the real issues of first love. The debate and open conversations about waiting for sex are both realistic and refreshing to see. One of the best things the show did this past year was put the two of them together. And this coming year they will have a lot to deal with surrounding JT but I think they will make it through stronger than ever.

BEST VILLIAN: Lexie has been turned into a great soap opera villain in the span of about one year. She has gone from respected doctor and loving wife and mother to a scheming, lying, treacherous villain. The storyline has given Renee Jones the opportunity to really show what she can do. I have always heard actors say they enjoy playing bad better and she plays bad really well.

BEST STORYLINE: Shawn and Belle win this category as well. Watching them grow from friends to falling in love has been a wonderfully sweet and refreshing storyline. They come from two of the core families in Salem and will be able to carry on the show and these families for many years to come. Their storyline has included their parents and friends and is one of the best on daytime right now.

WORST COUPLE: No doubt about it, Austin and Sami are the worst couple on the show. After YEARS of Sami scheming to win Austin she finally did it and fans could care less. These two have ZERO chemistry and to think they should get married is a waste of airtime. This is one story that should go into the trash can in the new year.

WORST STORYLINE: There are so many it is really hard to choose one. I will have to make it a tie between Jack being "gay" and anything involving Princess Gina and brain chips. Wasting time that Jack and Jen could be spending together is just that a waste of time. And Princess Gina and her story was worn out a long time ago. Soap operas are famous for dragging stories out but there has to be a limit and Princess Gina reached that limit a long time ago.
