The End Of Stefano?

Could it be that the Phoenix may not rise again or that it may rise with another actor? After all these years Joe Mascolo may be leaving the role that has made him a soap villain legend.

Online reports and soap magazine reports both state that Mascolo may indeed be leaving the role of Stefano as early as May when his contract expires. The negotiations have been going on for quite some time and if the reports are a compromise could not be reached.

Stefano has been a staple on Days for many years now. Several storylines have focused on or around him and he has been the villain of the show for many years. It is hard to imagine Days without Stefano. He is written into the history of so many characters that it would seem that the show would have no other alternative than to recast him at some point. The show could not just cast off years of history his character has with so many others.

But a recast of such a prominent, long time character could be a very tricky prospect. The fans have been with Mascolo a long time and having Stefano show up in the form of someone else may not go over well with the fans.

The current baby switch story, the Brady/Dimera feud, Stefano's obsession with Marlena and so much more have yet to be resolved which would make a recast almost a necessity. I, for one, hope that something can be worked out to keep Mascolo on as Stefano. The show just would not be the same without him.
