Happy Days Are Here Again

The return of Jack Devereaux in the form of Matt Ashford had me laughing so hard I was crying. He has truly been missed and so has the wonderful comedic talent he brings to the show.

Jack returned in true Jack fashion. Sneaking around an airport spying on Jennifer. Holding a newspaper with eyeholes cut out of it and sporting a glue on moustache. In true Jack style he falls down all over Jennifer and her luggage and his moustache is hanging by a thread of glue. It was hilariously funny and absolutely classic Jack.

Jennifer protests and hurls accusations at him which he deflects with that all too cute charm. How could any woman resist him? He is funny, romantic and adventurous. Just the kind of man the show has been sorely lacking. And Jack and Jen are also a great comedic team, something else the show has been lacking since the days of Calliope and Eugene and Vivian and Ivan.

Matt Ashford does comedy and romance in one deft movement. He portrays a cad and a knight with equal grace. Watching him work is a breath of fresh air.

Jack is now slinking around the Coronation Ball pretending to be a waiter. Scarfing down appetizers and hiding out from all the Salemites who would recognize him. More classic Jack scenes filled with comedy. But deep down you know that Jack loves Jennifer with all his heart and that they belong together when all is said and done.

If the show is wise it will sign Matt Ashford to a contract. He brings things to the show that draw fans back in and bring new fans as well. The pairing of Jack and Jennifer has always been magical and after years have passed they still have that spark. I look forward to many more of these classic Jack and Jennifer scenes and I am hoping the show realizes what they have before they let him get away again.
